Thomas McCarthy-Howe is currently an Independent consultant to service providers, enterprises and equipment vendors with over nineteen years of experience in the design and development of next generation communications equipment. In 2006, Thomas was an original member of the Netcentrex US turnaround team, successfully increasing booking, revenue and backlog five times over cumulative revenue from 2001 to 2005. In this role, Thomas was responsible for all product management, including pricing, competitive analysis and sales support. In addition, he was responsible for speaking on behalf of Netcentrex at all major US telecom tradeshows and as the primary technical interface to US analysts. After a successful sale to Comverse, Thomas became the Chief Technical Officer for the Converged IP Communications Group of Comverse, USA.

Previously, he was CEO and Founder of Tangerine Inc., a leading maker of call agents for small IP telephony service providers. After its succseful sale to Versatel in 2004, he became the CTO of Versatel Networks. In this role, Thomas was responsible for setting technical direction and positioning, including competitive analysis and strategy. Instrumental as member of executive team in successful completion of 10MM funding round, responsible for writing the executive summary and first round investor presentation. Thomas led the business development team on partnership programs and outreach, including selection, vetting, negotiation and implementation. Thomas worked with the marketing team on all internal and external marketing efforts, including press releases and mail campaigns, analyst relations and trade-shows.

Mr. Howe also founded Howe Digital, a VoIP engineering design consulting organization responsible for designing over 50 VoIP products for companies such as 2Wire, Cisco, Voyant, Pingtel and Polycom. As a member of the PictureTel engineering team, Mr. Howe designed audio and video software of the first PC-based video conferencing system, as well as software for the original version of NetMeeting. He also served as PictureTel's engineering manager responsible for all software development for the next generation H.323/H.320/H.324 SwiftSite product line. He has also served as the director of engineering for NetPhone's first generation IPBX product line (subsequently purchased by Sonoma Systems, then Nortel) and as Aware Inc.'s software architect for the first commercially available ADSL chipset, where he contributed to developing the DSL standards process.

Previously, Mr. Howe was a member of the technical staff at Signatron Division of Sundstrand, where he was responsible for design and development of difficult communications devices and simulators, such as meteor burst, troposcatter and over the horizon communication. Mr. Howe received his bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering at University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and attended graduate school at Northeastern University where he studied Digital Communications and Signal Processing. He currently serves on several technical advisory boards and boards of directors.

Thomas currently resides in West Barnstable, Cape Cod, Massachusetts with his wife and four children. In his copious spare time he runs, practices Tang Soo Do and Judo, typically followed by regular medical treatment administered by Benny at the Way Ho in Buzzard’s Bay.
